Health | The "Wheat Belly" Diet

Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight, and Find Your Path Back to Health

Is food made out of wheat flour addictive? Does it result in weight gain and disease? That’s what Dr. William Davis claims in his book
Wheat Belly.

I've been reading book reviews, and they're very impressive.
One reviewer claims he went from 210 pounds to 184 pounds in three months, simply by cutting out wheat products. He also claims his chronic sinus problems disappeared. Another reviewer explains that thanks to modern genetic manipulations, today's wheat is no longer the
"staff of life"
it's poison.

Read the following description and tell me what you think in the comments. I just ordered the book, and I'm definitely checking out this diet.

Book Description

"A renowned cardiologist explains how eliminating wheat from our diets can prevent fat storage, shrink unsightly bulges, and reverse myriad health problems.

Every day, over 200 million Americans consume food products made of wheat. As a result, over 100 million of them experience some form of adverse health effect, ranging from minor rashes and high blood sugar to the unattractive stomach bulges that preventive cardiologist William Davis calls
“wheat bellies.” According to Davis, that excess fat has nothing to do with gluttony, sloth, or too much butter: It’s due to the whole grain wraps we eat for lunch.

After witnessing over 2,000 patients regain their health after giving up wheat, Davis reached the disturbing conclusion that wheat is the single largest contributor to the nationwide obesity epidemic—and its elimination is key to dramatic weight loss and optimal health. In Wheat Belly, Davis exposes the harmful effects of what is actually a product of genetic tinkering and agribusiness being sold to the American public as “wheat”—and provides readers with a user-friendly, step-by-step plan to navigate a new, wheat-free lifestyle.

Informed by cutting-edge science and nutrition, along with case studies from men and women who have experienced life-changing transformations in their health after waving goodbye to wheat, Wheat Belly
is an illuminating look at what is truly making Americans sick and an action plan to clear our plates of this seemingly benign ingredient."

I have heard of it and planned on checking it out too. A counselor for my daughter recommended it to help her acne as well as pms symptoms. I need to order it.

It is extremely hard to go gluten free with a teenager though!

Crickl Hey girl, how are you? Sounds like we all would benefit from going off wheat. I find pasta is my downfall. :~)

I wonder why some health professionals say to eat 100 percent whole wheat whole grain and this book states otherwise. It makes me very curious to read it... Also is it just the GMO wheat or all wheat?

amba77: I did buy the book, and I'm convinced that there's truth to the idea that ALL wheat is really bad for us. The reason is that ALL wheat is genetically modified.

I hope that helps.
